India and Russia push for closer ties

NEW DELHI - Prime Minister Narendra Modi's offer of a US$1 billion line of credit to Russia to develop its far east region and an agreement to jointly manufacture defence spare parts in India could energise lagging economic ties, said foreign policy analysts.

The moves come amid India's growing proximity to the US and Russia's reaching out to China and Pakistan.
