SPD to vote on German coalition talks

Germany's centre-left Social Democratic Party (SPD) will vote tomorrow on a proposal by party leaders to start formal coalition talks with Chancellor Angela Merkel's conservative bloc.

Nearly four months after the election, Dr Merkel has still not managed to form a government.


Free health checks at wellness carnival

A wellness carnival today at Rivervale Plaza will offer free health checks and talks on cancer, such as the importance of early screening. The event, organised by Singapore social initiative me+ and the People's Association, will be attended by Punggol East MP Charles Chong.


Koreas to finalise Games participation

The two Koreas will hold talks with the International Olympic Committee in Lausanne, Switzerland, today to finalise the details of the North's participation in the Winter Games in South Korea next month.

North Korea's involvement, including marching under the same flag with the South Korean team, is seen by some as a sign of easing tensions over Pyongyang's nuclear and missile programme.
