Two plead guilty to UK terror plot inspired by Al Qaeda

LONDON (AP) - Two men accused of planning an Al-Qaeda-inspired terrorist attack intended to be bigger than the 2005 London transit bombings have pleaded guilty in a London court.

Mohammed Rizwan and Bahader Ali on Wednesday admitted to engaging in conduct in preparation of acts of terrorism.

Prosecutors say they were part of a gang that planned to detonate bombs hidden in backpacks. Three of the other plotters were convicted earlier this year.

Prosecutors say that the gang had planned an attack that would rival the July 7, 2005, London transit bombings, which killed 52 commuters.

They planned to explode the bombs in Birmingham, Britain's second-largest city.

Six other gang members have already pleaded guilty. Sentencing will be later this month.
