Some 3,000 mostly young people, reflecting a surge in the appeal of Senator Bernie Sanders' "democratic socialist" message, crowded an auditorium in downtown Cedar Rapids, Iowa, last Saturday.
At the event, the senator and a squad of high-profile backers, including progressive lawmakers Pramila Jayapal and Ilhan Omar, pitched for a large turnout for him in the crucial Iowa caucuses today.
