Albirex reach RHB S'pore Cup final

Albirex Niigata are one step closer to retaining their RHB Singapore Cup title, after they beat Balestier Khalsa 1-0 - and 2-0 on aggregate - in their second leg semi-final yesterday at the Toa Payoh Stadium.

Rui Kumada scored the winning goal in the 82nd minute. Albirex will face Tampines Rovers in the final on Oct 29 at the Jalan Besar Stadium.


Sharapova case to be decided next month

ZURICH • The Court of Arbitration for Sport will rule in the first week of October on five-time grand slam champion Maria Sharapova's appeal against a two-year tennis ban.

The 29-year-old Russian was banned by the International Tennis Federation in June after a positive test for the banned drug meldonium during January's Australian Open.

LONDON • A five-year-old Sunderland football fan's fight against cancer has been boosted after Everton donated £200,000 (S$360,000) to his cause, following Monday 's 3-0 victory over Sunderland.

Bradley Lowery's family hopes to raise £700,000 to fund his potentially life-saving treatment in the United States.
