June date set for 2015 SEA Games

The 28th South-east Asia Games in Singapore is set for June 5-16, 2015.

Lim Teck Yin, chairman for the Singapore SEA Games Organising Committee, said the dates were set after considering several factors.

Firstly, the dates avoid the rainy weather of the November/December monsoon season. Secondly, the Games will end before the Ramadan period begins on June 18, 2015.

Finally, the Games will not clash with other major events: the National Day celebrations (August), the Formula One weekend (September), the Women's Tennis Association Championships (October) and the end-of-year school examinations.

Lim, who is also chief executive officer of the Singapore Sports Council, said that the Games will likely host over 30 sports. The list of sports will be decided by June next year.
