Police arrest molest suspect with the help of two students

Two male students helped to detain a 30 year-old man who allegedly molested a female commuter on board a bus and was later arrested by police.

On Sunday at about 12.10am, the 23-year-old victim was on a bus travelling along West Coast Crescent when the suspect sat beside her and molested her. When she confronted him, he wanted to alight but she alerted the bus captain about the incident.

The commotion attracted the attention of the students, both aged 17, who stopped the suspect from leaving. The police were notified and later took over custody of the suspect.

Investigations are ongoing. If convicted, the suspect may be jailed up to two years and caned.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Melvin Yong commended the students for their public-spiritedness and thanked them for their assistance in detaining the suspect.
