SINGAPORE - She remembered her shock turning instantly into panic and horror when she realised her hand was trapped in the mincer, and a split second later came the kind of pain she never imagined existed as her fingers were crushed.

When Ms Rabiah Baharuddin Abdul came to in a hospital bed hours later after surgery, she knew almost immediately she had lost the five fingers in her right hand, and her life had changed forever.
