In a Facebook post, Dr Tan noted that Singapore shares "warm and friendly relations" with Papua New Guinea, adding that the two countries "cooperate well in many areas".

"Both countries are small states with common perspectives, and hence have an interest to work closely together on issues of mutual concern," he said, adding that he looked forward to working with Mr Dadae to strengthen the bilateral relationship between the two countries.

Mr Dadae was on transit in Singapore, following his investiture by Queen Elizabeth II in London.
