Former driver jailed for attacking colleague with metal rod

A man who attacked his assistant over work-related issues was jailed for a year on Thursday. Tan Ah Bah, 61, then a driver with baking specialist Phoon Huat, admitted to causing grievous hurt to Mr Pang Wai Seng by swinging a metal rod at the 52-year-old's face at the company's waiting room at Pandan Loop on May 26 last year.

A district court heard that the two men got into an argument that morning in the toilet at the workplace. The victim then went to the waiting room while Tan went to his lorry.

Tan later appeared in the waiting room wielding a metal rod. He swung the metal rod from behind and hit the victim on his face and shoulder.

Tan's colleagues stopped him from further attacking the victim who was conveyed to hospital. Mr Pang suffered serious injuries including facial fractures. Tan could have been jailed for up to 10 years and fined.
