SINGAPORE - A 20-year-old military national serviceman was on Monday (Sept 28) sentenced to 21 months' probation for committing sexual acts with a 15-year-old girl.

Muhammad Hafiz Mohamed Jamil was also ordered to do 130 hours of community service.

The court heard that some time last year, Hafiz and the girl got to know each other via Twitter after she started following his account.

They chatted more frequently in April this year, developed romantic feelings for each other and arranged to meet up.

On four separate occasions that month, they engaged in sexual activities, including oral intercourse.

In May, the victim admitted to her mother that she had engaged in sexual intercourse for the first time with Hafiz.

Her mother took her to a police station to lodge a report.

Hafiz pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual penetration of a minor. Another nine of the same charges were taken into consideration in sentencing.

For each count of sexual penetration of a minor under 16 years of age, he could have been jailed for up to 10 years and fined.
