SINGAPORE - A 37-year-old Winnipeg man has been accused of befriending a teenage girl from Singapore while playing an online video game, then repeatedly raping her and taking explicit nude photos when she went to Canada to meet him.
Here is a look at four recent similar cases.
1. Singapore's worst case of sexual abuse of young boys
Between November 2009 and June 2012, Malaysian engineer Yap Weng Wah, 31, preyed on 31 boys aged between 11 and 15.
He hunted for his victims on Facebook, often pretending to be a polytechnic student, and made it a point to find out their interests and hobbies. He then used the knowledge to arrange meetings with the victims under various pretexts, such as to give them gifts, play computer games, or give body-building tips.
He managed to cajole 30 of the boys into having anal or oral sex with him. In a raid on his home on Sept 12, 2012, around 2,000 video clips of him having sex with the boys were found in his laptop.
He was given 30 years' jail and the maximum 24 strokes of the cane last month.

2. Underage Casanova
In a case heard in court in July 2013, then 16-year-old student Muhammad Nor Aszroy admitted to having sex with three girls, all no older than 14.
He had befriended his victims on Facebook and he would ask them to be his girlfriend after chatting online even before he had met them in person.
In September 2013, a judge ordered him to undergo a period of reformative training.

3. Facebook 'friend' jailed for underage sex
On July 13, 2012, property agent Lim Chong Bian, then 40, was jailed for 10 months on one count of carnal connection with an underage girl.
After getting acquainted on Facebook, he began discussing, via SMS, his preferred sex positions and sexual experiences with a female student who had recently arrived in Singapore. He asked the teenager for sex and she agreed. They met the following day for the first time and had unprotected sex at Hotel 81 in Upper Changi Road. That was in late May 2010, less than a month after they had met online. They had sex two more times in the following weeks.
4. Teenager made 12-year-old girl perform oral sex
In 2009, a father who was curious about why his daughter was up late found out to his horror that the 12-year-old was sending topless pictures of herself to someone she had met online.
The man, Lee Guo Qiang, then 19, had befriended the girl while playing a Facebook game called Viwawa, according to court papers. He would talk to her over the phone late at night and during one such phone call, Lee told her that he was watching a pornographic movie, and described the scenes to her. He even moaned on the phone.
When they first met, in August or September 2009, he touched her breasts and vagina, then made her perform oral sex on him.
In 2011, he was placed on two years' probation.
