Enjoy the view... if you are game to zip

It's not a ride for the faint-hearted.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) celebrated a Guinness World Record on Thursday with the opening of the world's longest zip line in Ras al-Khaimah.

Thrill-seekers can propel at speeds of up to 150kmh down from Jebel Jais, the UAE's highest mountain. The 2.8km-long zip line, which spans the equivalent of 28 soccer fields, was certified this week by the Guinness World Records, the UAE's tourism authority said.

Most visitors to the country spend their time in Dubai, home to one of the world's largest shopping centres and an indoor ski slope. The emirate of Ras al-Khaimah hopes the zip line, which starts at 1,680m above sea level, will be a draw for tourists, reported Reuters.

The zip line can handle as many as 100,000 people a year. Riders must be at least 1.22m tall and no heavier than 150kg.
