(REUTERS) - One of the biggest trailers shown at sci-fi convention Comic-Con was Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which sees two of DC Comics' main players, Superman and Batman, going head to head with each other.

The film, directed by 300's Zack Snyder, continues on the universe set up in Snyder's Man of Steel and sees British actor Henry Cavill return as Superman with Ben Affleck now behind the mask of Batman.

Amy Adams returns as Lois Lane and Jesse Eisenberg takes on the role of Superman's nemesis Lex Luthor.

The title Dawn of Justice refers to the introduction of The Justice League, a team of superheroes, which includes Batman, Superman, Flash, Green Lantern, and Martian Manhunter.

Rounding off the team are Wonder Woman and Aquaman, played by Gal Gadot and Jason Momoa respectively who both star in Batman v Superman.

Gadot features heavily in the trailer as Wonder Woman brandishing a sword and shield.

Warner Bros, which holds the rights to DC Comics' characters, is releasing a number of superhero films over the next six years in a similar manner to Disney's and Marvel Studios' Avengers franchise.

The next film is due in 2016 and it will be Suicide Squad starring Jared Leto as The Joker.

In 2017, Gadot will get her own film as Wonder Woman, the same year that Justice League Part One is being released.

Justice League Part Two is slated for release in 2019.

In the meantime, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will be globally released in March 2016.
