SINGAPORE - The 1961 musical West Side Story is an iconic movie with legions of fans. It is not only the highest-grossing film in the year it was released, but it is also the winner of 10 Academy Awards, including for Best Picture.

Director of the new adaptation Steven Spielberg says he would be glad to face criticism for having the audacity to tinker with a classic. It would mean he had created a novel work instead of a rehash.
