SINGAPORE – The ingredients of the fable are familiar: an impossibly virtuous damsel, a bullying stepmother and sister, magical pumpkins and a prince. Yet this is no Cinderella, but the amorphous Nusantara folk tale Bawang Putih Bawang Merah.

Staged for Pesta Raya – Malay Festival of Arts 2024, this star-studded production is Teater Ekamatra’s follow-up to its acclaimed Bangsawan Gemala Malam.
