This week, Asean was on the minds of several readers, after an Opinion contributor, Associate Professor Farish A. Noor, wrote about Singapore's South-east Asian potential. Mr Chan Cheng Lin responded by saying Singapore should develop a South-east Asian identity.
However, Mr Ng Qi Siang feels that tying our national identity and loyalty to Asean is not in Singapore's interests, as the regional bloc is very different from a grouping like the European Union. Mr Francis Cheng also said conditions were not right for a common Asean currency.
