MR PETER Ong, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Finance (MOF), has been reappointed as chairman of the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (Iras) board.
In the same announcement on Monday by the MOF, three new directors have been appointed to the tax authority's board. These appointments will take effect from Sept 1 until Aug 31, 2016.
Mr Ong, also head of the civil service, has been Iras chairman since October 2009.
Among the three new directors is Mrs Chng Sok Hui, chief financial officer of DBS Group Holdings.
Also new on the board is Dr Philip Pillai, who was a judicial commissioner and then judge of the Supreme Court from 2009 until his retirement in December 2012.
The third new board member is Mr Bob Tan, chairman of Jurong Engineering.
The three will replace retiring members: Mr Lim Joo Boon, an adviser to Phillip Private Equity and OWW Capital Partners, senior counsel Giam Chin Toon, a senior partner at Wee Swee Teow & Co, and Mr Viswanathan Shankar, Standard Chartered Bank's chief executive for Europe, Middle East, Africa and the Americas.
Four board members were also reappointed, including Adjunct Professor Lee Kwok Cheong, CEO of SIM Global Education, and Mr Pek Hak Bin, head of KPMG's energy and natural resources practice here.
The other two are Mr Pok Soy Yoong, the former head of tax at Ernst & Young, and Mr Niam Chiang Meng, Permanent Secretary in the National Population and Talent Division and for National Climate Change.
The Iras board is made up of nine members, including the Commissioner of Inland Revenue Tan Kim Siew.
