Asean ministers meet in Manila

The Philippines will start hosting the 49th Asean Economic Ministers' Meeting today, with trade chiefs and senior economics officials from the 10 Asean member states gathered in Manila to discuss trade and investment.

The Philippine News Agency said the meeting is crucial as it will determine the conclusion of the text of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, a free trade platform bringing together 16 Asian nations.


Bukit Panjang transport hub opens

The Bukit Panjang Integrated Transport Hub opens to commuters today. SMRT Buses, which runs the hub, has added a number of features for both passengers and staff. These include an interactive display map for bus service information, as well as an electronic feedback system to alert cleaners if a toilet is dirty.


Data on S'pore manufacturing activity

More data on the state of manufacturing in Singapore will emerge today with the release of last month's Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) - an early indicator of manufacturing activity.

In July, the PMI logged its 11th straight month of expansion with a reading of 51. This was up marginally from June's 50.9.

A reading of 50 and above indicates expansion.
