Parents of boy found buried under kitchen floor in Malaysia charged

SELAYANG (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - A couple has been charged in connection with the discovery of their nine-year old son's body under the floor of a rented home in Kepong.

The father, Loo Chon Wen, 33, was charged with murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code, while his wife, Tan Boa Jia, 32, was charged with causing the disappearance of evidence under Section 201, by burying the victim's body inside the house with the intention to protect her husband.

Their son, nine-year-old Loo Yong Shen Evan, was the third of the couple's four children. The charges were read to them in Mandarin at a Magistrate's Court here on Friday. Both have not entered their pleas.

The court is waiting for the forensic report before Loo can be brought to the High Court for his plea to be heard. Tan's lawyer, Kitson Foong, asked for a psychiatric evaluation to done for his client before they decided on her plea.

Magistrate Nurul Izzah Hasan Basri set Aug 6 as next mention for Loo and July 10 for his wife pending the psychiatric report. They were charged with committing the offences on March 29 at 2pm in Taman Usaha Jaya, Kepong.

On May 29, renovation workers found the boy's body in cement under the kitchen floor of the couple's rented house in Kepong after detecting a foul stench.

The couple had allegedly asked their landlord for permission to repair a bathroom in March before vacating the house without notice.
