Participants wearing motorcycle helmets getting sprayed by firecrackers at the "Beehive Firecrackers" festival in Tainan's Yanshui district yesterday. According to Taiwan's Tourism Bureau, the festival is ranked the third largest folk celebration in the world. The explosive racket of hundreds of thousands of firecrackers all going off at the same time is said to be like the din when hundreds of thousands of bees stream out of their hives. The event attracts large numbers of onlookers every year.
