One killed in Nepal shooting over fungus

KATHMANDU • A villager was shot dead in Nepal and three others were injured in clashes over a rare and valuable fungus coveted for its reputed aphrodisiac qualities, an official said.

Mugu district chief Keshab Raj Sharma said a gang of 10 to 12 looters was shooting "indiscriminately" on Wednesday night, and added that locals claimed the gang had stolen their harvest.

LAHORE • Relatives slit the throat of a young mother who was pregnant with her second child after she married against their will in eastern Pakistan, the latest in a spate of so-called "honour killings".

Ms Muqaddas Bibi, 22, was killed by her father, brother and mother at her parents' home and died on the spot.
