Prior to joining The Straits Times, Kalicharan Veera Singam was a researcher at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) and an Associate Faculty and Lecturer at the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS). Kalicharan served as an assistant and researcher to Ambassador Barry Desker during the latter’s tenure as Chair of the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR). Kalicharan was named an ASEAN Youth Fellow in 2024. He brings around a decade of experience in research and policy analysis, with journalism experience dating back to 2009 and later editorial work.
