China unlikely to back down in face of new tariff threats from Trump, say analysts

WASHINGTON - United States President Donald Trump's threat of additional tariffs on US$200 billion worth of Chinese goods has dramatically raised the risk of a full scale trade war with China.

"If China increases its tariffs yet again, we will meet that action by pursuing additional tariffs on another $200 billion of goods," he said in a statement on Monday (June 18) evening.
