WASHINGTON - Veteran Nancy Pelosi returned for a second stint as Speaker of the House of Representatives on Thursday (Jan 3) as the Democrats took control of the chamber even amid a deadlock with President Donald Trump over funding for a border wall that has led to a partial federal government shutdown.

The House passed legislation to fund the federal government late on Thursday but it did not include money for the wall and Mr Trump is seen as unlikely to sign it.
