Pandemic takes toll on environment too

This picture of a curious California seal swimming towards a discarded face mask at the Breakwater dive site in Monterey, California, last November won the top prize in the Environment category of this year's World Press Photo Contest. The photo highlights the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the environment, with masks thrown away without care. The Straits Times will showcase this and other winning images in an exhibition in Singapore later this year.
