DAVOS, Switzerland - If China stole the show at last year's Davos meeting, India is making a play to be this year's star.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will give the opening address on Tuesday (Jan 23) morning (11am in Switzerland).

On Monday (Jan 22), India hosted a big welcome reception in the main Congress Centre Hall, complete with Indian delicacies and performances to wow the participants.

Mr Modi, the first Indian PM to address the conference in over 20 years, will make a 36-hour stop in Davos. He brings with him half a dozen Indian ministers and the biggest-ever business delegation from India, the Times of India reported.

Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Kahn was also among the artists who picked up a Crystal award, which are given out each year to personalities who have made outstanding efforts to "improve the state of the world", as the WEF mantra goes.
