LONDON - Russia's decision to cut its sales of natural gas to Germany in an effort to counter Europe's support for Ukraine has acted as a chilling reminder for German politicians about their country's strategic vulnerabilities.

For the moment, leaders in the German capital of Berlin are struggling to find replacement supplies, with Chancellor Olaf Scholz calling on his people to prepare for rising electricity bills and heating shortages this winter.
