Tide levels of 3m and above are considered higher than normal, according to PUB. According to NEA (https://www.nea.gov.sg/corporate-functions/weather/tide-timings), there is a high tide of 3.3m at 1.24pm on Jan 7, 2026. During high tide periods, water level can get quite high and seawater can overflow to the surrounding areas especially when combined with heavy rainfall. Spring tides are a natural phenomenon that happens when the Sun, Moon and Earth are aligned, resulting in the gravitational pull of the Sun to be added to that of the Moon's. With climate change and rising sea levels, the risk of transient flooding at coastal areas due to the combined effects of high tides and heavy rainfall would be heightened over the long term.
