New early check-in facilities at Changi Airport are encouraging passengers to spend more time there before their flights.

Late last year, the airport set up early check-in counters at Terminals 2 and 3. There is also an early check-in lounge at Terminal 1.

More than eight in 10 departing passengers can now check in at least four hours before their journeys, while the number of airlines offering the service has almost doubled from a year ago.

Airport bosses believe it is shortening queues and reducing the risk of passengers missing their flights.

Changi Airport Group vice-president (passenger experience) Albert Lim hopes to have 20 per cent of passengers checking in early by the end of next year.

He said: "Early check-in smoothens the flow of passengers beyond the peak period."
