Counting the cost of flood damage in Singapore

Climate change means more flash floods, and Singapore is particularly vulnerable. This is not just an engineering issue, though. An economics approach ensures that policy decisions are not money down the drain

Experts expect that as the Earth becomes warmer, flash floods may become increasingly more common and severe around the world, including in Singapore, especially with it being a low-lying city.

Singapore had 73 days of flash flooding over the decade. On Aug 24 last year, rainfall hit a 38-year record high, resulting in flash floods across the island.
