Blackout fallout can be agonising: Commuters stranded, lifts stuck, surgery cancelled. Sometimes, the trigger for a massive blackout can simply start with a tree growing too near power lines.

It was a dark night for many of us here. On Sept 18, the worst power outage in 14 years hit 19 areas in Singapore.
