SINGAPORE – You might have grabbed a quick meal of soya sauce and vinegar-braised adobo pork at a casual Filipino restaurant in Lucky Plaza. Or tucked into laphet thoke, the Burmese fermented tea-leaf salad, before shopping in Peninsula Plaza.

But a new crop of Filipino and Burmese restaurants is hoping to woo diners here. They are opening in foodie enclaves such as Amoy Street, Duxton and Siglap. The vibe and prices are upscale, and the menus feature contemporary versions of the classics.
