SINGAPORE – American fast-food chain Chick-fil-A will open its first Asian outlet at Bugis+ on Dec 11, the brand announced on Nov 4.

This will mark the official start of its US$75 million (S$98 million) 10-year investment in the region.

The Singapore outlet opens daily from 10am to 10pm except on Sundays, in line with a longstanding tradition started by Chick-fil-A’s late founder Truett Cathy, who wanted to give employees a day to rest, spend time with their families or worship if they so chose.

The menu will be anchored by favourites like the chicken sandwich and waffle potato fries. A new Spicy Chilli Sauce has been developed for Singapore.

The brand will celebrate the opening of Chick-fil-A Bugis+ with a $25,000 donation to The Food Bank Singapore, supporting those in need of food assistance. It will donate an extra $25,000 for each new restaurant opened here.

“Caring for people has always been at the heart of Chick-fil-A’s purpose,” says Mr Hugh Park, head of Asia-Pacific operations at Chick-fil-A (Asia). “This partnership reflects our longstanding commitment to making a positive impact in the communities we serve.”

The new restaurant will participate in the Chick-fil-A Shared Table programme. Under this initiative, which has helped to create more than 42 million meals globally, surplus food will be donated to The Food Bank Singapore’s beneficiaries.

“Partnerships like this remind us that when businesses and communities come together with shared purpose, we can make a lasting difference in the lives of those who need it most,” says Dr Arthur Chin, executive director of The Food Bank Singapore.

Mr Chyn Koh, who owns and operates Chick-fil-A’s first Singapore joint, is hoping to support the community by creating 60 to 80 job opportunities at his Bugis+ restaurant.

Mr Chyn Koh will oversee daily operations at the Bugis+ restaurant, invest in team member development and lead local community engagement initiatives.

Says the former Subway franchisee, who spent 17 years with the American sandwich chain: “For me, this is more than operating a business. It’s about building a space where care is genuine, team members are supported to grow, and every guest can enjoy great food while feeling truly welcome and valued.”

He plans to do this by providing pathways for growth and upward mobility. He told The Straits Times in an October interview that part-time staff will make $14 an hour – higher than the local industry standard of $7 to $12 an hour, according to employer review platform Glassdoor – and could receive support from a care fund, to be disbursed at the discretion of managers.

Chick-fil-A Bugis+ will be located at 01-19, 201 Victoria Street. For more information, go to
