Ang ku kueh, or red tortoise cakes, are commonly used as auspicious gifts for a baby's full-month celebration and offerings for deities.
But the pastry, which got its name from its tortoise-shell shape and is said to have originated from Fujian, China, is becoming a trendy snack, coming in all sorts of colours and flavours.
