SINGAPORE – Having completed his year-long mandatory military service in August, Taiwanese actor Greg Hsu is “very happy” to resume his day job.

The 34-year-old was in town on Sept 25 to promote his latest movie Measure In Love, alongside Hong Kong actress Angela Yuen and Hong Kong director Kung Siu Ping.

Speaking to local media at The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore ahead of the film’s Singapore premiere at GV VivoCity that day, Hsu said: “It feels like I am coming back to a past life, and slowly returning to myself.”

Now that he can take on acting gigs again, he is excited to show what he can do in future projects, he added.

Kung said after his official discharge, Hsu appears more muscular than when filming wrapped in 2024 and seems to be “full of positivity and ready to do something big”.

Opening in Singapore cinemas on Oct 3, Measure In Love is produced by Taiwanese actress-director Sylvia Chang, and its theme song Blink Of Eternity is performed by Singaporean superstar JJ Lin.

The fantasy romance is set in a world that is split into two zones, where time and gravity work differently. Hsu plays a thief in the Evergreen Zone, where a day is equivalent to a year in the Aurora Zone, which is where his love interest (Yuen) is from.

As his character ages more quickly than hers, Hsu needed to apply special make-up, and wrinkles had to be added post-production to reflect the passage of time.

He also sports his longest hair length ever in Measure In Love, past his shoulders in some scenes.

“As an actor, my hair is not my own. Whenever I keep it to a certain length, it has to be cut again. But if I have a long period of rest, I might see how long I can keep my hair (again),” he teased.

The star is best known for hit shows like Taiwanese drama series Someday Or One Day (2019) and Taiwanese comedy movie Marry My Dead Body (2022).

Other than Hsu’s markedly different image, Kung, 40, recommends audiences to check out the movie’s Hsu-Yuen romantic kissing scene which took 30 minutes to nail.

Set in a grassy area in the Evergreen Zone, where gravity is lower, Yuen’s character can be seen floating in the air. This required the 31-year-old actress’ legs to be strung up by wires during filming.

“When my legs were held up that way, it hurt,” said Yuen, who starred in Hong Kong family drama film Fly Me To The Moon (2023) and Chinese series Listening Snow Tower (2019).

“So during the kissing scene, (I felt) very romantic in my upper body, but my lower body was in pain.”
