PETALING JAYA – Namewee is looking for job opportunities following his release on bail amid ongoing investigations into the murder of Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh.
In a social media post on Nov 17, the Malaysian rapper, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, revealed that all of his work through the end of 2026 has been axed.
“Since the case is still under review, and the report has yet to be released, it will take several more months before there’s any result,” the 42-year-old wrote in Chinese.
In the meantime, Namewee said he is open to part-time work and flexible on fees.
“I can make fried chicken cutlets, fried rice, curry, wash pots and even install iron bars. If there’s something I don’t know, I can learn. Any income is fine,” he wrote.
He added that he is also looking for sponsors for his upcoming Chinese New Year (CNY) song after the previous sponsor withdrew, reportedly due to his arrest.
The controversial personality promised that the track will be free of vulgar and inappropriate content, adding that it is much better than any of his previous CNY songs.
“If the music video (for the song) gets fewer than 10 million views, half the sponsorship amount will be refunded. Should any issues arise before CNY, a full refund will be given,” he wrote.
Namewee was detained by the Malaysian police on Nov 5 in connection with 31-year-old Hsieh’s death. The authorities had classified it as murder after initially treating it as sudden death.
Investigations showed that Namewee was the last person seen with the victim in a hotel room on Oct 22.
He was later arrested over alleged drug possession and use, but was released after pleading not guilty to the charges at the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court on Oct 24.
On Nov 12, Attorney-General of Malaysia Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar stated there was no evidence linking Namewee to Hsieh’s death, and he would be released on police bail.
Namewee later said in a statement that he had done everything he could to save Hsieh, but to no avail. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
