‘I did everything I could to save her’: Malaysian rapper Namewee on death of influencer Iris Hsieh

Malaysian rapper Namewee says he did everything he could to save Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh.

PETALING JAYA – Malaysian rapper and film-maker Wee Meng Chee, better known as Namewee, says he did everything he could to save Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh, but to no avail.
“I saw a human being die before my eyes for the first time. I did everything I could to save her but nothing could be done. This image will remain in my mind forever,” Wee said in a Facebook post on Nov 14.
This was the 42-year-old’s first public statement since he was released from detention over the police investigation into the death of Ms Hsieh Yu-hsin, also known as Iris Hsieh.
“After nine days in detention, I’m out. This was the longest I’ve ever been detained,” he said.
He added that in the first two days of detention, he was questioned by six different police teams from various departments, with the longest session lasting 15 hours. “They recorded my statement using various methods and employed various technological tools to conduct a thorough investigation. Their work was meticulous and highly professional,” he said.
He also called on the public not to judge others based on their line of work.
“Shooting OF doesn’t mean she was a person of disrepute. Please stop cyberbullying the deceased,” he said, referring to content platform OnlyFans.
Wee was detained by the police in connection with Ms Hsieh’s death on Nov 5. The police had reclassified her death as murder after initially classifying it as sudden death.
Investigations revealed that Wee was the last person seen with the 31-year-old victim in a hotel room in Kuala Lumpur at about 1.40pm on Oct 22.
Wee was later arrested for alleged possession and use of drugs, but was released after pleading not guilty to the drug-related charges at the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court on Oct 24.
On Nov 12, Attorney-General Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar said there was no evidence linking Wee to Ms Hsieh’s death and that he would be released on police bail.
“We have obtained the investigation papers on the case from the police. After examining them, we found no evidence to show that the suspect was involved in the murder of the Taiwanese influencer,” he said. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
