KUALA LUMPUR – Renowned Malaysian comedian Harith Iskander and entrepreneur Jezamine Lim are officially divorced.
The former couple ended their 14-year marriage after Harith, 57, pronounced the talak (the Muslim pronouncement of divorce) before Syariah judge Siti Noraini Mohd Ali at the Federal Territories Syariah Lower Court in Kuala Lumpur around noon on July 25.
According to Syariah lawyer Akberdin Abdul Kader, the pair agreed to divorce amicably due to irreconcilable differences. Dr Lim, 41, filed for divorce on June 25.
“Both of them are still on good terms for the sake of their children. There’s no problem,” Datuk Akberdin told mStar, The Star’s Malay-language news portal.
Harith and Dr Lim, who married on June 12, 2010, share three children, aged nine to 14. They shocked the Malaysian entertainment scene on July 9 when news broke that she had filed for divorce.
Harith previously acknowledged his shortcomings as the primary cause of the divorce, highlighting that his actions played a significant role in the breakdown of their relationship.
“I have to admit that I made mistakes,” he said in an interview with online news portal The Rakyat Post hosted by television personality Daphne Iking on July 19.
When asked why they decided to split up, Harith said: “I’m a guy, I’m an idiot. I acted in ways I should not have. I’m not going to come up with any excuses. I have done stupid things that many men do, and you would think I would know better at my age.”
Harith did not divulge more about the problems they were facing for the sake of their children, adding that they would deal with the issues privately.
Dr Lim, who was with him during the interview, said that their focus would remain on the well-being of their children and they would navigate the transition as smoothly as possible.
She added that despite being divorced, she would continue to be Harith’s manager.
“I will still manage Harith because I’m very passionate about what he does,” she said. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
