Something is very wrong when private-hire car firm Uber, through its Lion City Rentals, is able to secure as many as 510 certificates of entitlement (COEs), out of 630 submitted bids ("Fierce bidding by Uber keeps COE prices up"; April 21, and "Concerns over private-hire car firms driving up COE premiums"; April 24).
I urge the authorities to take steps to stop Uber from creating pressure on COE prices at the expense of individual car buyers.
In 2012, the Government rightly stopped taxi companies from competing with individual car buyers for COEs.
The rationale applied in 2012 against taxi companies must similarly apply to Uber, since it also offers commercial taxi services.
