SINGAPORE – Singapore’s investment company Temasek has appointed Mr Piyush Gupta as chairman of Temasek India, effective from Dec 1.
In an advisory capacity, Mr Gupta will work closely with Mr Ravi Lambah, who heads the India operations and strategic initiatives of Temasek.
He will also work with the Temasek India team on investment strategies, partner and support Temasek’s portfolio companies as they identify opportunities in India, as well as take on an institutional focus for Temasek by engaging with the Indian government and business communities.
Mr Gupta holds several designations such as deputy chairman of Keppel and chairman of Singapore Management University and Mandai Park Holdings.
He led DBS Group as its chief executive from November 2009 until his retirement in March. Mr Gupta was known for driving the digital transformation and regional expansion of Singapore’s largest bank by assets.
Mr Dilhan Pillay, executive director and chief executive of Temasek Holdings, said on Nov 28 that Mr Gupta brings extensive business insights and strong connections developed over decades in financial services.
“Complementing Ravi’s leadership of our India market, he (Mr Gupta) will provide strategic counsel and help strengthen our institutional networks in India and beyond, enhance our franchise value and expand our portfolio access,” said Mr Pillay.
On his new appointment, Mr Gupta said that he is honoured to work with the Temasek India team.
“Having been engaged with the Temasek ecosystem for many years, I look forward to collaborating with the team to deepen partnerships, pursue new opportunities, and contribute to Temasek’s continued growth in India,” he said.
