KLANG (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - Datuk Seri Azmin Ali will remain as the Selangor Mentri Besar until a candidate is sworn in to take his place.
A statement from the Selangor Palace signed by Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah's private secretary Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani also stated that Azmin will be moving on to the Federal Government to assume the role of Economics Affairs Minister.
He added that Azmin had infomed Sultan Sharafuddin in an audience on Sunday (May 20) that he has decided to take up the position after speaking with Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad about the ministry's scope of duty.
"Given this, His Majesty has consented for Datuk Seri Azmin Ali to hold the position of Economics Affairs Minister," said Munir.
He added Azmin had also given a list of names of the potential candidates to replace him as Menteri Besar.
Munir added that Azmin will relinquish his position as soon as the new Mentri Besar is appointed.
