Trump: No more debates with Kamala Harris

Republican nominee Donald Trump said on Sept 12 he would not participate in another presidential debate against Kamala Harris ahead of the Nov 5 election, after several polls showed his Democratic rival won their debate earlier this week.

“THERE WILL BE NO THIRD DEBATE!” the former president wrote, on social media site Truth Social.

Trump had participated in a debate against President Joe Biden in June before his debate against Harris on Sept 10.

Although Trump touted his performance on Sept 10 against Harris, six Republican donors and three Trump advisers who spoke to Reuters earlier this week said they thought Ms Harris had won the debate largely because Trump was unable to stay on message.

Alaska Airlines plane aborts takeoff to avoid collision

An Alaska Airlines airplane aborted takeoff on a runway at Tennessee’s Nashville International Airport on Sept 12 to avoid a potential collision with a Southwest Airlines jet, the airline said.

Alaska Airlines 369, a Boeing 737 Max 9 airplane with 176 passengers and six crew on board, aborted takeoff around 9.15am ET (9.15pm in Singapore) due to a potential traffic conflict after it had received clearance for takeoff from air traffic control, the airline said.

The Federal Aviation Administration said Southwest Airlines Flight 2029 - a Boeing 737-700 - had been cleared to cross the end of the same runway and the agency is investigating the incident.

US President Joe Biden will host the leaders of allies Australia, India and Japan in his hometown of Wilmington, Delaware on Sept 21 for talks focused on tensions with China, the White House said on Sept 12.

The summit comes as Mr Biden eyes his foreign policy legacy in his final months as a one-term president, after dropping out of the 2024 US election and effectively handing the Democratic Party nomination to his vice-president, Ms Kamala Harris.

“This will be President Biden’s first time hosting foreign leaders in Wilmington as president - a reflection of his deep personal relationships with each of the Quad leaders, and the importance of the Quad to all of our countries,” his spokeswoman, Ms Karine Jean-Pierre, said in a statement.
