Harris, Trump attend 9/11 memorial after brutal debate

Kamala Harris and Donald Trump shook hands on Sept 11 at New York’s 9/11 memorial to mark the anniversary of the attacks, briefly putting politics aside hours after they clashed in a fiery presidential debate.

The solemn display of unity was a stark contrast to the scenes from the previous evening, when the Democratic vice-president forced the rattled Republican former president onto the defensive in a bruising encounter in front of tens of millions of viewers.

Any sense of harmony from the commemoration of the 2001 Al-Qaeda attacks is likely to be short-lived, with the election still on a knife-edge with just two months to go, despite polls showing a crushing debate win for Ms Harris.

The 78-year-old Trump came out swinging even before the ceremony, claiming in an interview with Fox News - without evidence - that the ABC News debate in Philadelphia was “rigged” against him.

Children allegedly sodomised in Malaysian welfare homes

Malaysian police have rescued 402 children from 20 welfare homes in Selangor and Negri Sembilan, where some children had been sodomised by their caregivers and allegedly forced to do the same to others.

Some children were also physically abused, Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said on Sept 11. “Children as young as five years old were injured with hot objects when they made mistakes,” he told a news conference in Kuantan, Pahang.

Some children who were sick were not allowed to receive medical treatment, which led to their condition turning critical, he was quoted as saying by the Free Malaysia Today online news website.

Ronaldo says Ten Hag’s attitude too negative for Man Utd

Cristiano Ronaldo says Erik ten Hag’s attitude is too negative, urging the Manchester United manager to target the Premier League title even though the club need to “rebuild from the bottom”.

The Portugal star, who now plays for Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, fell out with Ten Hag before his second spell at Old Trafford ended late in 2022. Ronaldo believes his former club needs sweeping changes but that Ten Hag should not rule out winning major trophies in the meantime.

“Manchester, they need to rebuild everything, in my opinion,” Ronaldo said, in an episode of the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast, due to be released on Sept 12.
