Hezbollah rocket lands near Tel Aviv after big Israeli strike on Beirut
Lebanon’s Hezbollah movement fired heavy rocket barrages at Israel on Nov 24, with Israeli media reporting that a building had been hit near Tel Aviv, after a powerful Israeli airstrike killed at least 29 people in Beirut the day before.
Israel also struck Beirut’s Hezbollah-controlled southern suburbs, where intensified bombardment over the last two weeks has coincided with signs of progress in US-led ceasefire talks.
Hezbollah, which has previously vowed to respond to attacks on Beirut by targeting Tel Aviv, said it had launched precision missiles at two military sites in Tel Aviv and nearby.
UAE arrests three suspects in killing of Israeli rabbi
UAE authorities have arrested three people suspected of murdering an Israeli-Moldovan rabbi in the Gulf country, the Emirati Interior Ministry said on Nov 24.
A ministry statement did not give further details on the suspects but said the ministry would use “all legal powers to respond decisively and without leniency to any actions or attempts that threaten societal stability.”
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office earlier on Nov 24 denounced the killing of the rabbi, Zvi Kogan, as a “heinous antisemitic terrorist act”, adding Israel would do everything it could to bring those responsible to justice.
Four convicted in Spain over homophobic murder that sparked nationwide protests
Four men were convicted in Spain on Nov 24 in connection with the homophobic murder of a 24-year-old nursing assistant that sparked protests in cities across Spain and abroad.
Samuel Luiz died in hospital after being assaulted by a group of people outside a night club in A Coruna in the northwestern Galicia region in July 2021.
Diego Montana, Alejandro Freire and Kaio Amaral were found guilty of aggravated murder, and Alejandro Míguez of complicity.
Man Utd ‘confused’ and ‘afraid’ as Ipswich hold Amorim to debut draw
Ruben Amorim admitted Manchester United were “confused” and “afraid” as his first match in charge of the troubled club ended in a frustrating 1-1 draw at struggling Ipswich on Nov 24.
Amorim’s initial taste of the Premier League started with Marcus Rashford putting United ahead in the second minute.
But Omari Hutchinson’s deflected strike hauled Ipswich level before half-time to deny Amorim a debut victory after replacing the sacked Erik ten Hag.
Sinner leads Italy to repeat Davis Cup glory
Italian Jannik Sinner completed a remarkable season by sealing his country a second successive Davis Cup title with a 2-0 victory over Netherlands in the final at the southern Spanish city of Malaga on Nov 24.
World number one Sinner produced a commanding display to outclass Tallon Griekspoor in a 7-6(2) 6-2 in the second singles rubber to wrap up the win after Matteo Berrettini comfortably beat Botic van de Zandschulp 6-4 6-2 in the first singles clash.
It was Italy’s third title in the elite men’s team competition following their triumphs in 1976 and last year.
