India and Pakistan trade claims of ceasefire violations
India and Pakistan traded accusations of ceasefire violations early on May 11, hours after US President Donald Trump announced that the nuclear-armed neighbours had stepped back from the brink of full-blown war.
India’s foreign secretary said Pakistan had committed “repeated violations” of the truce and that it was retaliating, while Pakistan said it “remains committed” to the ceasefire and that its forces were handling violations by India with “responsibility and restraint.”
Earlier, AFP staff in Srinagar in Indian-administered Kashmir reported hearing a series of loud explosions.
A senior official in Pakistani-run Kashmir told AFP that “intermittent exchange of fire is ongoing” across the de facto border in the contested region, the Line of Control.
Ukraine demands 30-day truce backed by allies

Ukraine and European powers demanded that Russia join an “unconditional” 30-day ceasefire from May 12 to allow talks on ending the war, saying they had backing from US President Donald Trump for the ultimatum.
A refusal by Russian President Vladimir Putin to observe the truce would trigger a fresh wave of sanctions targeting energy and the financial sector, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on May 10.
The plan was announced after Mr Zelensky held talks in Kyiv with French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

Pope Leo XIV took his first trip outside the Vatican on May 10, heading about an hour’s drive east of Rome for a visit to a Catholic shrine and stopping on the way back to pay respects at the tomb of his predecessor Francis.
Leo waved from the passenger side of a Volkswagen vehicle as he arrived at Rome’s St Mary Major Basilica. Entering the church to a few shouts of “Viva il papa” (Long live the Pope), Leo walked slowly to Francis’ tomb, laying a white flower on it.
Leo made the trip to St Mary Major after travelling to the small town of Genazzano, where he had earlier visited a shrine dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

France has a tradition of “urban rodeos”, in which young motorists and bike riders perform noisy, high-speed stunts, disrupting traffic.
Mr Bayrou said the urban rodeos were a “curse” many French cities and towns struggled with and said the government was working to clamp down on them.
Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane toasts breakthrough title
Harry Kane said he felt like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders after he won a first team trophy when his league-winning Bayern Munich side were presented with the Bundesliga shield on May 10.
Champions heading into the game, Bayern beat Borussia Moenchengladbach 2-0 at home, with Kane scoring the opener with a header after 31 minutes, his 25th league goal of the season.
The 31-year-old had lost six finals in his career – three with former club Tottenham, two with England and one with Bayern – as well as a second-placed league finish with Spurs.
