3 killed, at least 50 injured as Russia strikes Kharkiv

Russia bombed a residential building in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv on June 22, killing three people and wounding more than 50 as it stepped up renewed hostilities.

Officials said four guided bombs hit Ukraine’s second-largest city, located near the Russian border, and President Volodymyr Zelensky posted footage of the torn-off facade of an apartment block and a crater outside.

“Russian terrorists have again hit Kharkiv with guided bombs,” he wrote on Telegram, announcing three dead as rescuers searched the rubble.

Fifty-two people were wounded in the strikes, including three teenagers, the regional prosecutor’s office said.

Israeli forces strap wounded Palestinian to jeep during raid

Israeli army forces strapped a wounded Palestinian man to the hood of a military jeep during an arrest raid in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin on June 22.

A video circulating on social media and verified by Reuters showed a Palestinian resident of Jenin, Mr Mujahed Azmi, on the jeep, which passes two ambulances.

The Israeli military, in a statement, said Israeli forces were fired at and exchanged fire, wounding a suspect and apprehending him. Soldiers then violated military protocol, the statement said.

Japanese royals arrive for three-day state visit to UK

Japan’s Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako arrived in Britain on June 22 for a three-day state visit hosted by King Charles III.

A special flight from Japan landed at London’s Stansted airport. The royal couple are to spend June 23 and 24 at private engagements before the official programme begins on June 25.

The highlight will be a state banquet at Buckingham Palace, with all eyes on a possible appearance by heir to the throne Prince William’s wife Catherine, rarely seen in recent months due to cancer treatment.

Young fan gets selfie with Ronaldo at Euro 2024 game

A young fan ran onto the pitch during the June 22 Euro 2024 match between Turkey and Portugal and posed for a selfie with Cristiano Ronaldo in the centre circle.

The fan, wearing a red tracksuit top, evaded security staff as he emerged from the stand behind the benches midway through the second half of the game in Dortmund and made his way towards the Portugal skipper.

Portugal were leading 3-0 in the Group F game at the time, and Ronaldo posed smiling for a photo before the pitch invader ran off trying to escape stewards.

Taylor Swift poses with Prince William at ‘splendid’ concert

Britain’s Prince William posed for a photo with US music star Taylor Swift and two of his children, Charlotte and George, at the first night of Swift’s Eras tour in London on June 21.

A photo posted on Kensington Palace’s X social media feed on June 22 with the caption “Thank you @taylorswift13 for a great evening!” showed William smiling as Swift took a selfie with him and the children.

William celebrated his 42nd birthday on June 21.
