Fifa suspect Webb pleads not guilty, bond set at $13.6 million

Former Fifa vice-president Jeffrey Webb pleaded not guilty in US court Saturday in connection with a massive international corruption scandal, with his release set at a US$10 million (S$13.6 million) bond.

He is the first former official from soccer’s governing body to appear in a New York federal court in connection with the sweeping investigation by US prosecutors that has rocked the sporting world.

The 50-year-old dual British and Cayman Islands citizen has surrendered his passports to the FBI and must remain within a 32km radius of the courthouse in Brooklyn.

Trump heaps scorn on war hero record of ‘loser’ McCain

Donald Trump, known for his incendiary rhetoric on the 2016 campaign trail, lobbed his latest verbal grenade on Saturday, dismissing the military credentials of US Senator John McCain, a former prisoner of war.

The billionaire businessman and Republican presidential contender said McCain, a decorated aviator who was tortured during five years in a prison camp, doesn’t deserve praise for his service during the Vietnam War.

“He’s not a war hero,” Trump told supporters at a campaign event in the Midwestern state of Iowa.

A dad, his kids, and a phalanx of security: Obama in Central Park

Helicopters whirling overhead, a phalanx of New York police officers on scooters to shoo away tourists, and about 50 anxious Secret Service agents fanning out in front, to the sides, and to the rear.

That is how you take a Saturday stroll in Central Park when you are the president of the United States.

President Barack Obama - who has often chafed at the confines of his office - was in Manhattan this weekend, trying to spend some time with his daughters and show them a good time in the big city.

Golf: Woeful Woods misses cut at Open

Tiger Woods missed back-to-back cuts at major tournaments for the first time in his career at the British Open on Saturday.

In the latest blow to his flagging fortunes, the game's former dominant force, mired in the worst slump of his pro career, carded a 75 in a weather-hit second round that spread over two days.

That, combined with the 76 he shot on Thursday, saw him miss the cut by a wide margin, but he at least did manage to play at the weekend as the second round was spread over two days due to a rain delay.

BigBang's Seungri shows off his Mandarin at concert

The Speak Mandarin Campaign can consider hiring Seungri of K-pop boyband BigBang as their new ambassador.

The South Korean lad declared he was picking up the foreign language on Saturday night – in Mandarin no less.

He rattled off crowd-pleasing Mandarin phrases, and unabashedly engaged the crowd in the language throughout the two hour concert.
