Al Jazeera reports its journalist killed in Israeli strike on Gaza
An Israeli strike on Gaza killed an Al Jazeera journalist on Dec 15, the Qatar-based channel reported, amid the ongoing war in the Palestinian territory between Israel and Hamas.
“Al Jazeera cameraman Ahmed al-Louh was killed today, Dec 15, in an Israeli bombardment,” the network’s Arabic-language website reported, adding the strike targeted Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza.
Gaza’s civil defence agency spokesman Mahmud Bassal confirmed Louh had been killed in the strike on the Nuseirat camp that also claimed the lives of three members of Bassal’s rescue agency.
Brazil’s Lula discharged from hospital following emergency surgery

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was discharged on Dec 15 from a Sao Paulo hospital following emergency surgery last week to treat an intracranial hemorrhage.
“I am here in one piece... returning home,” the 79-year-old leftist leader said as he made a surprise appearance at a news conference by his medical team at Hospital Sirio-Libanes.
Lula had successful surgery Dec 10 in which doctors drilled through his skull to relieve pressure that built up after a blow to the head in October, when he fell in a bathroom in his presidential residence.
Several hundreds, maybe thousands, may have died in Mayotte cyclone, local French prefect says

Several hundred people, maybe even thousands, may have been killed by Cyclone Chido in the French archipelago of Mayotte in the Indian Ocean, a top local French official said via local media channel Mayotte La 1ere on Dec 15.
“I think there will certainly be several hundreds, maybe we will reach a thousand, even several thousands,” local prefect Francois-Xavier Bieuville said on the channel.
Asked about the death toll of several hundred, the French interior ministry said “it will be difficult to account for all victims” and said a figure could not be determined at this stage.
Drones over US show gaps in airspace security, top Trump adviser says

A raft of drone sightings in New Jersey and other US states has underscored gaps in US airspace security that need to be closed, President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for national security adviser, Mike Waltz, said on Dec 15.
President Joe Biden’s outgoing administration has played down concerns about a growing number of reported drone sightings, saying most of them involve manned aircraft and stressing that there is no evidence of any national security threat.
But US lawmakers, including some of Biden’s fellow Democrats, have expressed frustration the government is not being more transparent and more aggressive in addressing public concerns.
