WASHINGTON – US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen says she will likely take a much-needed “good vacation” and return to the Brookings Institution think-tank in some capacity after she steps down later in January after four years in office.
Dr Yellen, 78, told CNBC in an interview that she planned to do some “writing and reflecting” on her experiences over the past four years as the first female US Treasury secretary.
Dr Yellen was also the first woman to head the US Federal Reserve, a role she held from 2014 to 2018 under former president Barack Obama, and led the White House’s Council of Economic Advisers under former president Bill Clinton.
“It has been a while since I’ve had a good vacation,” Dr Yellen told CNBC, but gave no details on any travel destination.
Dr Yellen worked at Brookings as a distinguished fellow before joining the Biden administration.
Chairing the Fed and leading the Treasury were “both terrific jobs”, Dr Yellen said, adding that what she had enjoyed most in both roles was working closely with the experienced and highly motivated staff in making policy. REUTERS
